    Jamies Whitmarsh

    Jamie Wind Whitmarsh is an American composer, percussionist, and conductor on faculty at Oklahoma City University. He is founder of the Oklahoma Modern Music Collective, Principal Timpanist of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Director of Composition for YES Academy-Lebanon, and a huge fan of cats.

    He regularly performs with clarinetist Lisa Kachouee as Duo Rodinia as well as percussion collective Great Plains Percussion Group, and is Artistic Director and conductor for the Oklahoma Composer's Orchestra. He has a vast catalogue of concert music, music for steel bands, and marching band shows.

    Jamie holds a Master's degree in Music Composition from Florida State University and a Bachelor's degree in Percussion Performance and Music Composition from Oklahoma City University, with a Doctorate in Percussion Performance in progress at the University of Oklahoma.

    As a member of Duo Rodinia, Jamie has performed as guest artist at universities and high schools across the United States, as well as at the 2015 and 2016 CMS Southern Regional Conferences, the SCI 50th National Convention, the 2016 SCI National Student Convention, as the featured guest artists for the 2016 SCI Region VI Conference, a guest artist residency with the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra, and Carnegie Hall. Great Plains Percussion Group has performed multiple times at the PAS Day of Percussion and recently presented a New Literature Session at the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy.

    Jamie can be heard on the compact discs Firefish, the Music of Blake Tyson, Florida State University Percussion Ensemble, Volume II: Not Far From Here and Florida State University Percussion Ensemble, Volume III: Ten Windows, the last of which contains his work NAILS!!!. His work Aqueous Transfusion may be heard on Tyler Tolles’ debut disc In Touch, Rogue Two's debut album includes his work Buckle Up, and his works Portraits and Insights may be heard on Ryan Beach’s forthcoming solo disc. In addition to his current position with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Jamie performs with other orchestral groups in the region, including Fort Smith Symphony Orchestra, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, and Norman Philharmonic.

    Jamie placed in the PAS Composition Contest multiple times (Concerto for Drumset, first prize, 2012; Variations 2.0, second prize, 2013), and was the winner of the MTNA National Composition Contest in 2014 with his reed quintet Animal Songs. His music has been performed at national and international conventions/conferences, including: PASIC, multiple PAS Days of Percussion, ICA ClarinetFest, The World Saxophone Congress in Croatia, SCI Regional Conferences, the ITG Convention, the MTNA National and State Conventions, NFA, and the 16th Biennial Festival of New Music at Florida State University, as well as by such groups as steel pan virtuoso Liam Teague, Ryan Beach, Florida State University Percussion Ensemble, the Northern Illinois University Philharmonic, Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, Broadway Community Chorus, National Broadway Chorus, and many more.

    His music is published by Jamie Wind Whitmarsh Music, C. Alan Publications, and Engine Room Publications. He is a member of SCI, ASCAP, and PAS and recently finished two terms on the Composition Contest Committee for PAS as well as chair of the Composition Education Subcommittee. Jamie proudly endorses Innovative Percussion products and is a member of the Black Swamp Percussion Educator Network.
