    Carl Schroeder

    Carl Schroeder (b. 1982) composes music for concert band, orchestra, choir, chamber ensembles and solo piano that often draws inspiration from American history, current events, natural surroundings, and memories. He is a graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he earned a bachelor of music degree in theory/composition and studied composition primarily with Timothy Mahr and Peter Hamlin. Among his compositions are many works for concert band, orchestra, and solo piano. As a pianist, he performs his original music.

    Schroeder, who lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has written commissioned works for the Minnesota Symphonic Winds, Minnesota State Band, Cornell University Symphonic Band, Southwest Wind Ensemble, City of Lakes Community Band, Wells Fargo Chorus and other ensembles and individuals, and five CD recordings of his music have been released. His music has earned awards and recognition from various organizations including the Minnesota Music Educators Association, which named him “Composer with Most Potential” in 2001, and the National Band Association’s Young Composer Mentor Project, in which he was a 2004 participant and took lessons with composers Mark Camphouse, Donald Grantham and Dana Wilson. His choral work Two December Carols has been published by Boosey & Hawkes. In addition to his career as a composer, he has been the editor of the Minnesota Orchestra’s Showcase concert magazine since 2015.
