Sargent, Erik

    Erik Sargent

    Erik Sargent (b. 1997) is a percussionist, arranger, composer, and software engineer from the Pittsburgh area. During his high school years, he was a performer in the nationally recognized Mt. Lebanon Percussion program, studying with Jeremy DeLuca. He arranged works for some of the program’s many ensembles (particularly the Concert Percussion Ensemble, Keyboard Ensemble, and Marching Band). Furthermore, he arranged, rehearsed, and performed multiple works for the program’s annual Recital Night concerts.

    After high school, he has continued to arrange pieces for the Mt. Lebanon Percussion program. As of May 2020, he completed his B.S. in Computer Science with dual minors in Music Theory and Sonic Arts from Carnegie Mellon University, additionally having taken classes on orchestration and arranging from CMU faculty such as R. James Whipple and Stephen Story. He has played percussion for various music groups on- and off-campus, and combined his musical and technical knowledge as well, such as when he designed and programmed an instrument in Professor Roger Dannenberg’s Laptop Orchestra concert.
