McIvor, Christian
Christian McIvor is active as a performer in both the classical and jazz/commercial styles. He is a member of Market Street Brass, a brass quintet that regularly performs throughout the Southeast, the U.S., and abroad. Market Street Brass plays a wide variety of musical styles to diverse audiences. They emphasize an entertaining, educational approach to music, and the group regularly presents clinics and master classes to schools of all levels. McIvor also regularly plays split lead trumpet with the North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra, he has toured across the eastern U.S. with The Soul Brothers (a James Brown tribute band), and he freelances as a soloist throughout the Southeast.
McIvor’s compositional works focus on adding new literature to the brass quintet repertoire as well as bringing new arrangements of traditional, historically significant American works to contemporary audiences.
A native of Colchester, Connecticut, McIvor has taught at High Point University, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and the Luiz Munoz Marin School in Bridgeport, CT. He holds a B.A. in music from the State University of New York at Potsdam, as well as M.M. and D.M.A. degrees in trumpet performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
McIvor lives in Greensboro and enjoys the outdoors, reading, running, sports (a diehard Boston fan), and spending time with his wife Chrissy, their dog Basie, and their two cats Fritz and Elwood.
