Maultsby, Reese
Multi-faceted artist and percussionist Dr. Reese Rylan Maultsby (b. 1995) is enjoying a wide range of success throughout his career as an educator, performer, and composer. His students at A.C. Davis High School (WA) won best percussion at the WSU Marching Band Championships in 2018 as well as first-place in the large percussion ensemble category of the 2019 Washinton State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Shortly after, he served as Lecturer in Music for percussion at Washington and Lee University (VA), then Assistant Instructor at The University of Texas. Currently, Dr. Maultsby serves as Assistant Professor of Percussion at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
Professionally, Reese has played drum-set on cruises across the world with Holland America Lines, served as a percussionist with the American Festival Orchestra during the China and Mongolia tour, and is a founding member of the recent chamber group The Austin Percussion Collective. He has continually been involved with the marching arts as a teacher and arranger, working with groups like the Columbians Drum and Bugle Corps, Jeff Chambers Music, and multiple high schools and universities throughout the country.
The University of Texas Percussion Ensemble has premiered recent compositions of his, and he is continually writing solo, chamber, and ensemble works for himself and others. Before earning his DMA from The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Maultsby received two bachelor’s degrees in both music education and percussion performance from Central Washington University, as well as a master’s degree from James Madison University.
His primary mentors and instructors are Mark Goodenberger, Casey Cangelosi, Dr. Thomas Burritt, and Ivan Trevino. Outside of percussion, you can find him rock climbing, disc golfing, or enjoying some espresso at a local coffee shop!
