Lin, Chin-Cheng
Chin-Cheng Lin (b. 1984) was the first marimba student to complete the five-year program at the renowned Royal Flemish Conservatorium Antwerp. At age 19, he received the third prize at the prestigious International Marimba Competition Belgium. Praised for his outstanding musicality and remarkable presentation at that age, he also received the Young Talent Prize. Lin made his Belgian debut at the “Proloog” of Hogeschool Antwerp and international debut at the International Percussion Festival Valencia, Spain. In 2007, Lin won the 4th European Soloist Competition in Birmingham. He has also received more than 15 top prizes at international music competitions.
Lin has given master classes and festivals in more than 15 countries. He is active in many international percussion festivals and European percussion days and has taught in several music academies and universities. Lin has recorded in several CD productions and released his debut solo album Silk Road in 2007.
Through collaboration with the Taipei Representative Office in Belgium and Europe, Lin received an award for the promoting Taiwanese arts and Lin had the honor to perform for the Belgian royal family. Aside of marimba playing, he has composed many pieces for marimba and he has written two music books for young performers.
