    Anthony James King

Anthony J. King’s initial interest in music began at the age of seven, when he was in the youth choir in the local church. This interest grew when he began to listen to the role that percussion played in the music of the church. Later in the sixth grade he decided to participate in the band and chose to play percussion. After middle school he went on to high school and held different positions of leadership and well as writing and arranging for various percussion ensembles.

After high school he went on to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at the University of Central Florida. He was under the direction of Professor Jeffrey Moore, Mr. Kirk Gay, and Jim Yakas. While attending UCF, he performed with the “pop” and chamber percussion ensembles, the “Black Steel” steel band, the concert band under Ron Ellis as percussion section-leader, the wind ensemble under the direction of Dr. Richard Greenwood where he served as a co-section leader, and the symphony orchestra under the direction of Dr. Lazlo Marosi, and the UCF Marching Knights where he has also acted as a section leader and has traveled to Esjko, Sweden with this group as the percussion arranger/coordinator. He has also been featured as a performer with the UCF chamber percussion ensemble twice.

In 2002 Anthony marched in the Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, and later in 2006 taught the same section he participated in. Two years later he marched snare drum with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps. He has also taught several distinguished High Schools in the Orlando area such as Cypress Creek, Deland, University, Lake Howell and Boone.

In 2008, after receiving his Master degree in Music Performance from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, he functioned as the Front Ensemble Coordinator for the Spokane Thunder Drum and Bugle corps which was ranked the Most-Improved drum ad Bugle Corps in their class.

Anthony currently is at Doctorate student at Texas Tech University, in Lubbock TX, where he will begin his second year of studies in the Fall semester of 2011. He teaches the several percussion ensembles and teaches lessons to several undergraduates. Upon graduation his goal is to acquire and build, sustain and maintain a collegiate percussion studio.
