Joest, Kevin
Kevin Joest, a composer and percussionist from Louisville, Kentucky, is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Music Degree in Music Theory and Composition from Middle Tennessee State University. He has performed numerous times with various MTSU groups, including the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Band of Blue Marching Band, and Percussion Ensembles. In high school, he even toured Europe with the Kentucky Ambassadors of Music, performing in England, France, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. In 2009, Kevin performed with the MTSU Band of Blue Drumline in a clinic presented at PASIC.
Kevin has been writing music since early high school, having works performed by the Louisville Youth Band Percussion Ensemble. In college, his works have been performed by the MTSU Percussion Ensemble, as well as various chamber ensembles. In November 2009, Kevin presented a Junior Composition Recital, securing his position as a premier composer within the school. At that year’s Percussive Arts Society International Convention, his entire recital was accepted by C. Alan Publications to be reviewed for publication. Kevin continues to write and is currently working on a piece for wind ensemble, as well as other chamber groups and solo instruments.
Kevin’s teachers have included Lalo and Julie Davila, percussion; Andy Smith, percussion; Jason Tiemann, percussion; Michael Linton, composition; and Paul Osterfield, composition.
