Holmes, Benjamin
Dr. Benjamin Holmes is an accomplished percussionist, composer, and music educator originally from Lubbock, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Texas Tech University and continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, earning his Master of Music degree in Performance under the guidance of Dr. Lance Drege before returning to Texas Tech University to pursue his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Percussion Performance. Benjamin studied with Dr. Lisa Rogers and Mr. Brian Kendrick.
As an active clinician, he has shared his expertise in both concert and marching percussion throughout Texas and Oklahoma. Benjamin has performed across the United States at the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy, PAS (Percussive Arts Society) Oklahoma Day of Percussion, PAS Canada Day of Percussion, and Texas Music Educators Association Convention, among others. A founding member of the Holmes Percussion Duo, Benjamin regularly performs original music with his brother Cody. The Duo is responsible for 750 thousand YouTube views and over 20 new works for percussion. The duo won second prize in the 2022 North International Music Competition and joined the World Percussion Group for their 2023 virtual tour.
Benjamin is also an accomplished composer and arranger, with his work available from Tapspace Publications, the OU Percussion Press and HolmesPercussion.com. His percussion duo, Palm Reader, was recently nominated for J.W. Pepper’s Editor’s Choice Award. Currently, Benjamin is the percussion coordinator and arranger for the University of Oklahoma bands, teaches applied lessons in the percussion studio, and serves on the Percussive Arts Society Composition Committee. Benjamin endorses Vic Firth sticks/mallets and Zildjian cymbals.
