Hills, Joe
Joe Hills has instructed, conducted, and composed for numerous percussion ensembles, marching bands, wind ensembles, chamber ensembles, and soloists across the United States. Joe is consistently committed to bringing a unique and individualized composition to each and every ensemble he has the pleasure of experiencing.
As a recent Master of Music Composition, Joe Hills (b. 1987) is a brilliant, 21st century composer of a variety of ensembles including, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Chamber Ensemble, solo and ensemble Percussion, Drum & Bugle Corps, and Marching Band. Joe began his compositional career from a young age, finding more pleasure in writing his musical inspirations rather than his mathematical equations.
Born and raised in Colorado, Joe attended Colorado State University where he studied music education, tuba performance, and composition. After earning his Bachelors of Music in 2011, Joe continued his studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He has since earned the title of Master of Music in Composition under the tutelage Dr. W. Thomas McKenney (PhD Eastman School of Music).
Joe currently teaches percussion at Highlands Ranch High School in Colorado and he maintains freelance work composing for a wide variety of ensembles. Joe prepares to further his education and expects to begin pursuing his PhD in Music Theory/Composition in the fall of 2016.
