Grassano, Thomas
Thomas D. Grassano majored in vocal and piano performance at Furman University. He completed his M.M. in theory and composition at the University of South Carolina and his D.M. in composition at Florida State. He studied marimba during his bachelor's program and developed a love for the instrument through his travels and study of ethnic music in Latin America.
Dr. Grassano's style is reminiscent of Bartok and Ginastera, often combining imitation, beautiful melodies and driving rhythms influenced by folk music. His compositions include sacred music, vocal and choral music, woodwind ensemble, various instrumental music and orchestra.
Dr. Grassano is an accomplished singer, pianist, conductor and composer. For the past twelve years, Dr. Grassano has devoted his time to the mentoring and empowering of youth in the inner city.
