Frock, George
George Frock holds the title of Professor Emeritus at The University of Texas. He retired in the spring of 2001, after serving for 35 years as Director of the percussion program. He also contributed to the School of Music administration, having served as Director of Undergraduate Studies, Associate Director of the School of Music, and was the founder of the Longhorn Music Camp. He is nationally recognized as a teacher, performer, and composer, and also served as Principal Timpanist for the Austin Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for thirty-seven seasons. Under Professor Frock's direction the University of Texas Percussion Ensemble become well known through appearances at numerous conventions, including the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, MENC, and CBDNA. They have premiered several works for percussion and have recorded for the CRI label. He continues to serve as an Educational Consultant and Clinician for the Ludwig/Musser Division of the Conn-Selmer Co., and was formerly a member of the artist faculty for the International Festival Institute at Round Top, Texas. He regularly contributes reviews of percussion publications for PERCUSSIVE NOTES, the official publication of the Percussive Arts Society.
