Nicholas A. Fields (b. 1985) is an active educator, performer, composer and arranger who grew up in Cincinnati, OH. Fields studied music education with a percussion emphasis at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, KY, graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. Fields was an active member of the percussion ensemble, jazz band, orchestra, wind ensemble, marching band and WGI independent indoor drumlines. While at Campbellsville University, Fields studied under the instruction of Dr. Marty Sharer, and Dr. Chad Floyd.
Fields’s competitive marching experience includes snare drum with the Marion Glory Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps out of Marion, OH. While in college, he marched with the 2005, 2006 independent indoor drumline East 80 Percussion (Columbia, KY), after that marching with the indoor drumline Speed Percussion (Campbellsville, KY) in 2007, and working on staff in 2008.
Although he enjoys all aspects of percussion, Fields is especially passionate about jazz drum set. He has performed with jazz combos and big bands in and around the southwest Ohio region. He has performed with the JECO (Jazz Education Connection of Ohio) Big Band, the Jazz Central Big Band in Dayton, OH, the Miami University Campus Owls Big Band. Currently Fields plays percussion with the Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band which was founded in 1969. Fields has composed percussion ensemble literature, indoor drumline shows, and arranged music for high school marching bands in Kentucky and Ohio.
As an educator, Fields has been teaching music and band at the Edgewood City School District in Trenton, OH since 2009. He is the director of bands at Edgewood Middle School (EMS) as well as the director of percussion at Edgewood High School (EHS). In addition he directed the EHS Indoor Drumline who have medaled at the bronze, silver, and gold levels in the MEPA (Mid East Performance Association) Circuit Championships. Fields also directs the EHS Percussion Ensemble who have had the honor of performing at festivals in Chicago, IL also regularly participating in the OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) Solo and Ensemble competition, receiving superior ratings. In 2024, Fields had the honor of being named a Yamaha “40 under 40” Music Educator.
Nicholas A. Fields currently resides in Hamilton, OH with his wife (local choir director) Carmen, daughter Clara and two cats Aphex and Tosca.
