    Catherine Fields

Catherine Fields (b. 2000) is a composer and pianist native to Northern Virginia with a diverse body of works for wind band, symphony orchestra, voice, piano, percussion and various chamber ensembles. By way of melodic lyricism and an evocative timbral and harmonic palette, she seeks to transport her listeners into an experience. She is intrigued with the way music leads to deeper communication and understanding between people, and aims to foster a spirit of collaboration through her music.

Catherine is currently pursuing a masters in composition at the University of Cincinnati- College Conservatory of Music. She holds a bachelors from George Mason University where she studied composition with Mark Camphouse and piano with Anna Balakerskaia. Most recently, her piece Celebration and Chorale was premiered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Concert Band, who commissioned the piece for their 75th anniversary concert. Catherine has composed select works for the American Festival Pops Orchestra, Mason Wind Symphony, Mason Percussion Ensemble, and local artists. Additionally, Catherine contributed a chapter to the upcoming book, The Wind Band: A Medium in Search of Itself, compiled and edited by Mark Camphouse and published by GIA.

When she is not composing, you might find her in the company of friends, in the kitchen perfecting old Italian recipes, or singing in her church choir. She is also fascinated with the mind and brain and satisfies her curiosity with a minor in Neuroscience.
