Fambrough, Gene

    Gene Fambrough

    Gene Fambrough is currently an Assistant Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Percussion at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he has been on the faculty since 2001. He directs the Percussion Ensemble, Steel Band, Drumline, Electro-Acoustic ensemble and assists with all aspects of the UAB Band program. He holds degrees from the University of Georgia (Music Education), East Carolina University (Performance), and the University of Alabama (DMA, Performance).

    He also serves as the marching percussion editor for Percussive Notes, the official journal of the Percussive Arts Society. In 2016-17, he served as Interim Director of Bands at UAB. He appeared at PASIC in 2012 as both a member of the All-Star Steel Band and as a member of the World Percussion Panel Discussion. In 2015, his original CD recording “Occam’s Razor” was released on iTunes, Amazon, and in physical hard copy.

    Prior to his appointment at UAB, he spent three years at Oak Grove High School in Bessemer, Alabama. His professional affiliations include the Percussive Arts Society, Music Educators National Conference, ASCAP, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Pi Kappa Lambda. He is sponsored by Pearl/Adams Instruments, Sabian Cymbals, Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets, Evans drumheads, and Black Swamp Percussion.
