Ellzey, Jake
Jake Ellzey is a composer and percussionist from Gulfport, Mississippi. As an undergraduate at Louisiana State University, Ellzey performs with LSU's Symphony Orchestra, Constantinides New Music Ensemble, LSU’s Wind Ensemble, and Hamiruge, the LSU Percussion Group. Ellzey's compositional work focuses on chamber settings and their application to tell stories. These stories strive to illustrate music as language and incorporate a diverse range of subjects such as magic realism, liminal spaces, the space between stars, and even a dental appointment for a crocodile. Ellzey's work has been performed by members of The International Contemporary Ensemble in addition to a number of student ensembles at LSU. Ellzey has made his debut at Carnegie Hall with his string quartet, Departure, being performed in April of 2022.
